Keene State to Launch National Presidential Search as USNH Charts New Leadership Structure黄瓜视频
Last Friday, the University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees took significant steps to reshape how the system will be led in the years ahead. For Keene State College, the most consequential decision was straightforward and encouraging: the Board has authorized a national search for the College's next president.
That search is expected to take approximately one year and signals the Board's commitment to dedicated presidential leadership at Keene State.
What the Board's Actions Mean for the College
The Board also voted to recommend changes to state law that would combine the roles of USNH Chancellor and President of the University of New Hampshire, beginning July 1, 2027. This is a significant structural shift for the system. The changes require approval by the New Hampshire Legislature and the Governor before they take effect. The current leadership structure remains in place in the meantime.
Equally important is what is not changing: Keene State College will remain an independent institution with its own mission, identity, accreditation, and president. Interim President Don Birx has affirmed his full commitment to the College throughout the search process and beyond.
Momentum Continues
Over the past year, the Keene State community has made meaningful progress strengthening the College, enhancing the student experience, and laying the groundwork for a more sustainable future. That work will continue without interruption throughout the presidential search.
Birx expressed particular gratitude to Citizens for Keene State College and the many faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members who have invested themselves in the College's future. "Together, you have helped build renewed momentum for Keene State," he wrote in his message to campus.
A Clear-Eyed View of the Road Ahead
Like colleges and universities across the country, Keene State is navigating real pressures: shifting demographics, financial headwinds, and evolving student expectations. Campus leadership has been clear that maintaining the status quo is not a sustainable path. The goal is to find ways to operate more efficiently while protecting the mission, character, and quality that make Keene State distinctive.
As the legislative process moves forward, the campus community will be updated as new information becomes available.
